The 1977 Pontiac Firebird Formula was a mid-range model of the Firebird lineup, offering more performance than the base Firebird, but less than the iconic T/A. The Formula came standard with a Pontiac 301 V8 engine but could be upgraded to a 49-state Pontiac 350 or a California/high-altitude Olds 350. The most desirable option, however, was the 400ci Pontiac V8, which was also used in the T/A and delivered up to 220hp. The Formula also had a distinctive look, featuring a dual-scoop hood, but unlike the T/A, it didn’t have wheel-arch flares or front spoilers. The Formula was rare and underrated, with only about 1000 cars produced with the 400 engine and four-speed manual in 1977.
